General Questions

Looking for more facts and details? We’re very pleased to provide you with all the info! Here you can find all necessary information.

Who is the 'best candidate' for the treatment?

Those who have erection problems that have deteriorated in a mild to moderate measure (IIEF scale) through vascular or age-related causes. Usually, but not limited to, males over 40 years of age. An increasing number of younger men are experiencing ED.

Are the results of shockwave therapy for ED permanent?

The biological effects of shockwave therapy are permanent and have been scientifically proven. However, erectile dysfunction can be caused by a number of factors and those factors will determine if and when the condition can reoccur. Lifestyle factors or underlying health conditions could cause the problem to resurface in time if they are not resolved. Results can not be guaranteed and may vary from individual to individual.

Is shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction painful?

Despite the name, focused shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction is not painful. Shockwaves are only sound waves that have an analgesic effect, and therefore the treatment is reported as being very comfortable. It is important that if you do feel discomfort during the treatment, you let your medical practitioner know, so they can adjust the shockwave intensity accordingly. Mild aching pain may occur a few hours after treatment, this can last for a day or so. If required, patients may take ordinary prescription-free painkillers but do not take anti-inflammatory medication or apply ice to the treated area, as both may interfere with the body’s self-healing processes.

Duration of the treatment

The treatment duration is around 20 - 30 mins

If my erectile dysfunction is age-related can this help?

Shockwave therapy allows the formation of new blood vessels, this can address the reason that you have age-related erection problems

What can I expect during the session

During an approximately 20-minute session, a hand-held device, through which the shockwaves are emitted, is applied at different points on and around the penis. A series of low-level painless shockwaves are administered to the treatment areas on the penis and on the perineum (the area between the anus and the scrotum).

The number of repetitions will be decided by the physician, depending on the condition and symptoms. Treatments are carried out by a medically trained shockwave specialist.

To see if you are a likely candidate for shockwave therapy please complete our questionnaire. Please note this questionnaire is designed to give an indication of whether you are a suitable candidate for shockwave therapy, it does not replace a formal medical diagnosis. A full pre-treatment evaluation is always recommended to establish if this is an appropriate treatment for you with your GP, consultant or one of our clinic experts. If you are not comfortable talking to your own GP we can offer an initial consultation for £100, this is refundable if/when you book a course of treatments.
